Its Background

The Hluttaw Library was first started at the Pyithu Hluttaw Office, Yangon in March, 1974, and it was moved to Office No. 20, Nay Pyi Taw on 30 September, 2007. In August, 2012, it was moved from Office No. 20 to the compound of the Hluttaw where the current library exists, and the tasks of reforming the Hluttaw Library began. The Hluttaw Library was reformed with the formation of the e-Library by the library reformation group, and the discussions carried out by the local library experts.

Since the period during which the Hluttaw plenary sessions were first held in 2011, effective services have been provided to the Members of Parliament and the Hluttaw staff in accordance with the guidance of the heads of the offices with a view to developing the Hluttaw Library by adding more publications, appointing new library staff, adding more library-related furniture, computers and the computer-related materials, and using the Library Management software for the set-up of the e-Library.

Services are provided with the Hluttaw Library opening for perusal by the MPs and the staff on the upstairs of the Zabuthiri building of the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw. Arrangements are made in the two types of library: traditional and electronic.

Traditional Library

The books are arranged in the ten subjects in terms of the Dewey Decimal Classification System, and the reference books are also collected. The books on law, politics, economics and training are mainly collected.


The books collected in e-Library can be browsed by typing at the Address Bar of the web browsers in the Hluttaw network such as Mozilla, Internet Explorer and Chrome.

Reading Room of the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw
Services are provided to the MPs for their easy perusal in the Reading Room near the Plenary Session Hall of the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw Office. E-books can be read on the computers in the Reading Room. The books in the library can be browsed on the e-lib Server. Daily-published newspapers, weekly-issued journals, monthly-issued magazines, and the new arrivals can be perused.
